Two groups read Green Fingers last week and in it were some experiments. Each pair chose and experiment to carry out and will be watching what happens over the next few days/weeks. Most people chose to look at how the stem of a flower carries nutrients from the soil/water into the plant to be used as food.
We carefully split the stem of a pale flower and put one side in plain fresh water and one side in water with some red food colouring in it.
We have put them on the window sill to see what happens and will check each day.
We have a lot of different hypotheses on what might happen so we will wait and see....
The other pair decided to see how a clever a plant could be even when grown in the dark. First we have planted a kumera so we can get it to sprout. Once this has occured we will place it in a dark box with a maze like way to reach a hole where the light will come in... we will see what happens to the plant and how clever it can be.
Watch this space ....

Wow! what amazing experiments you are doing in class. How did that happen when the white flower turned red on one side? Also, I hear that the kumara experiment is going well and that the plant will start to sprout soon. I look forward to hearing more about these incredible processes.
